Every child deserves a voice – Here’s how you can help them find it.

At a moment when division feels overwhelming, empowering every young person to speak out has never mattered more. Yet, too often, we limit leadership to those pupils who already have confidence, or who grow up in the 'right' postcode.

Every child deserves a voice – Here’s how you can help them find it.

At a moment when division feels overwhelming, empowering every young person to speak out has never mattered more. Yet, too often, we limit leadership to those pupils who already have confidence, or who grow up in the 'right' postcode.

But what if there was a way for every child – yes, every single child – to be heard, valued, and to play an active role in shaping their school and community?

Smart School Councils (SSC) is exactly that: a revolutionary UK initiative turning traditional school councils into genuinely inclusive spaces. Instead of a small, elected few, SSC uses innovative technology and classroom-based discussions to ensure every pupil’s voice counts. Pupils across the country are suggesting ideas, voting on projects, and forming dynamic action teams. The results? Real, measurable change, built from the ground up.

In the recent Citizen Collective Spotlight call, SSC Co-Founder Greg Sanderson, along with Rachel Webb, a passionate primary school teacher and SMT member from the North East, shared how this approach has transformed her school, empowering pupils and energising teachers. Rachel calls it "life-changing" for pupils, teachers and the entire school community.

So what's the ACTion you can take today?

Why not share this inspiring one-pager with a parent or teacher you know?

It explains:
1. How SSC works
2. What it costs (roughly £300 a year)
3. What simple steps teachers can take to get it up and running.

Let's give our young people the tools and confidence to speak up, act, and lead. Because democracy and active citizenship start in our classrooms.
