Jon Alexander will be hosting Caroline Lucas and Ellie Meredith to face up to the reality of the climate emergency, and together asking some big questions... things like... How can and should democracies respond to the climate emergency? Where (if anywhere) is doing it well, in the face of the rise of the Far Right? How should we understand the relationship between the failure to address the climate emergency meaningfully and the crisis of democracy?
"At a time when Trump is dismissing this reality outright at the UN General Assembly, and you can be pretty sure there won't be much mention from the Labour Party Conference, these feel important questions.
But we'll also be discussing some questions I'd argue matter even more... How can and should WE respond as citizens and communities, especially if our governments are arguably not doing it? Where can we look to for inspiration on that front?
I do want to get into the first set of questions, the Big Democracy stuff, and I'm excited to have some proper time to dig into this with Caroline, who has been at the forefront of this work for many years - often acting with true heroism.
But we're going to spend most of our time in the latter set, not least because as I understand it, this is where Caroline's personal inquiry has been taking her - out of Westminster and into communities, with the Climate Majority Project among others.
I can't wait to bring Ellie and her work with the Re-Action Collective and on the concept of ACTionism into that conversation - I've known her for a few years now, and I know she'll have plenty to say. Her personal journey from anxiety to action is one I couldn't be more excited for you all to learn from." Jon
