ACTionism in Action Newsletter

ACTionism in Action Newsletter

ACTionism exists to inspire you by showcasing ordinary people who are challenging the system to create change.

We've had a busy few weeks since we launched this newsletter and our content hub - thanks to everyone who has been in touch with supportive messages and ideas on how we can grow ACTionism - we're now looking for funding - so if you have any ideas, please do get in touch.

Something to do: Find your people- register for the ACTionism summer connections call

We won't be hosting a Spotlight call in August, but you can join us for a relaxed online gathering to keep our ACTionism community connected over the summer. This friendly virtual meetup is perfect for catching up with familiar faces, meeting new people, and sharing interesting initiatives you've discovered recently. No formal agenda - just good conversation with like-minded people passionate about collective action. Come as you are, share what you'd like, and leave feeling more connected to our community.

Something to watch: Playful Anywhere Spotlight

Thank you to everyone who joined our first official ACTionism spotlight call with Emma Bearman of Playful Anywhere last week. If you missed it the full recording can be found here.

And don't forget - you can email us if you'd like to contribute to our play inspired guide to ACTionism

Something to listen to: Spaceship Earth Podcast- Ep 103

Enjoy this moving conversation between podcast host Dan Burgess and Gavin Fernie-Jones of the Re-Action Collective, exploring how personal loss and witnessing climate collapse in mountain landscapes sparked a repair movement. This episode is an invitation to feel grief as a portal into collective purpose and action.

Something to read: From Awareness to Action - Social Cinema

We're drowning in documentary content that shows us every crisis but leaves us feeling powerless. We see the problems but don't know how to act on them - often making us feel worse than before we watched the film.

The future of documentary impact isn't just reaching more people - it's empowering communities to act together. Social Cinema screenings are transforming how films move audiences from awareness to action, turning passive viewing into collective power.

Someone to follow: Antidote Studio

Matt Golding has taken his viral content expertise from brands and charities and created something powerful: Antidote Studio - a storytelling platform and framework that aims to make collective action as compelling as national news.

Antidote showcases ordinary people doing extraordinary things - but presents these stories in a way that actually breaks through social media's endless scroll.

Somewhere to go: Re-Action Basecamp, 19th July, Peak District

Re-Action member Outside (a family run independent outdoor store in the Peak District) is hosting the first-ever Re-Action Basecamp, a special event dedicated to giving donated gear a second life.

Expect tents, waterproofs, rails of outdoor clothing, and some seriously good deals - all in support of Moors for the Future & the Archer Project. There will be live repairs from Re-Action members Becky (Sheffield Clothing Repair) and workshops on caring for our outdoor kit from Katy (Upcycle_kit). Plus as if that wasn't enough, there will be a community walk led by guide Neil Summers - a 14.5km loop, reconnecting to nature, and visiting the wonderful Stanage Edge.

Fundraising ACTionist needed
We’re looking for someone with fundraising and partnership skills to help our small volunteer-led team secure funding. We’re excited to have started on this journey, and are already seeing and hearing so many positive things about what we’ve created so far with no budget! But we need to secure funding
💡
ACTionism aims to:
1. Educate and inspire by sharing stories, strategies, and practical guidance for collective action.
2. Cultivate joy deliberately - it creates energy, energy creates movement, and movement changes communities and systems
3. Amplify the work of community initiatives and organisations that align with our manifesto
4. Build collective agency and reduce feelings of powerlessness
5. Promote and enable community-led solutions across food, education, nature, repair, and local spaces
6. Lift up marginalised voices and ensure our work reflects community diversity.
7. Help people turn inspiration into practical action in their communities
8. Celebrate and amplify grassroots initiatives that demonstrate collective power
9. Connect people through accessible storytelling and community places and spaces
